The challenge of women’s health at different stage

Women have special health needs that change with age. A woman experiences significant phases of hormonal change from adolescence to older age. These changes influence not only her menstrual cycle, but general health that can lead to susceptibility to illness or disease.

Adolescents

Adolescent women have significantly different presenting issues that women of a middle to later aged women. Adolescents may experience period pain, irregular periods, skin blemishes, weight or mood changes that few treatments of acupuncture combined with herbal medicines can be very effective.

Young Women

A woman in her twenties or thirties may need help with stabilising hormones, optimising fertility and preparing for pregnancy. Longer-term issues such as period pain, weight issues or emotional problems may warrant attention as they are affecting our daily lives. When often we support women to balance the imbalances in their body, this work further supports their body if choosing to conceive at a later stage.

Perimenopause

As we age, so too does our body and this is often reflected by the change of our hormones. Perimenopausal or menopause women are entering into a new phase of life and may feel a number of symptoms reflecting this change. These including hot flushes, breast tenderness or worsening premenstrual symptoms, fatigue, irregular periods, vaginal dryness or urine leakage when coughing or sneezing. Additional symptoms felt may include arthritis, emotional instability, reduced memory and weight changes.

Postmenopause

Having worked with many women over the years, I often hear my patients say `I just thought it was the natural process of aging, however I feel so much better and am not experiencing symptoms any longer’.

Symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats and cold sweats, urinary urgency and difficulty sleeping due to hot flushes, disturbed sleep, excessive sweating can be effectively treated with a combination of treatments, dependent upon the assessment of your body.

Thyroid disorders are commonly seen and treated in our clinic

A big issue commonly seen in our clinic is thyroid imbalance. Patients may present with a completed thyroid panel), a blood tests from their GP or endocrinologist indicating thyroid medication is required. In consultation with your GP or endocrinologist, we can work with you within a time frame of 6-8 weeks, to restore your thyroid function and see results back within normal range, no longer requiring medication. This is achieved with a combination of Chinese herbal medicines, nutritional medicines, acupuncture and dietary modifications.
