IVF SUPPORT

Acupuncture in preparation for IVF

Acupuncture has been shown to support the treatment of IVF throughout any stage of your IVF journey. Most treatment plans to improve IVF outcomes is generally 4 weeks prior to commencement of IVF and working weekly alongside IVF treatment. There are various studies now available showing the increased success rate of combining acupuncture and IVF.

Acupuncture has also been shown to support IVF transfers on the day. Most of these studies focus on acupuncture treatments performed within 24 hours either side of the embryo transfer.  More regular acupuncture treatments will generally support improved outcomes.

Chinese herbal medicine can assist individuals at various different stages of their IVF journey.  The treatments focus is on improving egg quality, endometrial lining and sperm development.  Pre-conception treatment is not always possible, acupuncture can support a successful cycle if commenced at a later stage during IVF. Herb/ drug interactions are well considered during consultation with patients so as to not interfere with IVF treatment protocols.

Acupuncture During IVF Treatment

Women who have completed more than one stimulated IVF cycle, both with and with out the support of acupuncture, report a reduction in the side effects of a stimulated cycle and a relatively greater number of quality embryos.

Acupuncture treatments will vary depending on what type of IVF cycle patients undergo. Generally, weekly treatments during the initial stages of IVF therapy are recommended to support follicular development and egg collection, ease side effects of the medication and better manage stress and encourage relaxation.

Treatment is then recommended before and after egg transplant. This is to relax and promote blood flow to the uterus, encourage the body to accept the embryo and calm any anxiety or stress that may be experienced.

Additional treatments may be recommended post transfer and blood test to promote the implantation process.  Additionally, if a history of repeated miscarriage is relevant further treatments may be necessary.

IVF Pre & Post embryo transfer treatments are provided 7 days of the week in co-ordination with IVF Centres.  Please contact for details.

Please note: Chinese herbal medicines are not prescribed whilst patients are undergoing IVF treatment.
